What music motivates you?!

So, still trawling through the technicalities of some elements of getting things slowly up and running. Progress being made all the time and continuing to connect with some brilliant humans in the process – which really is the best part of all this it has to be said!

Regularly still working through the inevitable ups and downs of motivational challenge, exhaustion, struggling to find enough hours in the day to fit it all in etc etc… I had an epiphany yesterday whilst driving.

MUSIC IS INCREDIBLY ENERGISING AND MOTIVATING.

That might be the most obvious of statements to some but I think it’s easy to overlook when you’re so focussed on the task at hand.

I literally went (in about 0.75seconds) from slumped back in my seat in traffic, staring in to space feeling 100% disillusioned with life – to flinging my hair around and feeling invincible, much to the likely bafflement of ┬áthose with whom I was sharing the road.

I didn’t go quite as far as this girl but close. But I may have to get myself a mic for my car. Keep that to yourself.images

I fear I’m about to lose the respect of some readers by continuing but seeing as we are ‘facing the fear and doing it anyway’ these days… I’ll share with you my latest additions to an ever growing motivational playlist. Everyone is loving a bit of Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ and yes, it’s a goodie. I’m also a self-confessed Katy Perry junkie but my iPod is a ridiculous mix of anything and everything. And clearly in need of an update. Suggestions welcome!

What brought on this explosion of energy and motivation? The one and only Dolly Parton. Yes, Dolly. Not only is ‘9 to 5′ the go-to track for my dear friend Fiona at karaoke, it really does sum up some of the key drivers behind wanting to free oneself from said traditional working life!

Have you ever actually listened to ALL of the lyrics?! I’ve usually been too preoccupied with bellowing it at the top of my lungs to pay attention so I’ve taken the liberty of copying them below for your consideration. Dolly was so ahead of her time with this one….

I’ve chosen to highlight a couple of my favourite lines. I EMPLORE you to read to the end without music to really let it sink. Then scroll down a bit more and treat yourself…

Tumble outta bed and I stumble to the kitchen
Pour myself a cup of ambition
And yawnin’, stretchin’, try to come to life

Jump in the shower and the blood starts pumpin’
Out on the streets, the traffic starts jumpin’
With folks like me on the job from 9 to 5

Workin’ 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin’
Barely gettin’ by, it’s all takin’ and no givin’
They just use your mind and they never give you credit
It’s enough to drive you crazy if you let it

9 to 5, for service and devotion
You would think that I would deserve a fair promotion
Want to move ahead but the boss won’t seem to let me
I swear sometimes that man is out to get me

They let your dream, just watch ‘em shatter
You’re just a step on the boss man’s ladder

But you got dreams he’ll never take away

In the same boat with a lot of your friends
Waitin’ for the day your ship ‘ll come in
And the tide’s gonna turn an’ it’s all gonna roll you away

Workin’ 9 to 5 what a way to make a livin’
Barely gettin’ by, it’s all takin’ and no givin’
They just use your mind and you never get the credit
It’s enough to drive you crazy if you let it

9 to 5, yeah, they got you where they want you

There’s a better life and you

think about it,┬ádon’t you?

It’s a rich man’s game, no matter what they call it
And you spend your life putting money in his wallet

Workin’ 9 to 5, oh what a way to make a livin’
Barely gettin’ by, it’s all takin’ and no givin’
They just use you mind and they never give you credit
It’s enough to drive you crazy if you let it

BE HONEST…

You DO think about a better life don’t you?! So, erm, forgive my blunt approach but… DO SOMETHING about it! START HERE

Let me know what you think - it's ok, I can take it...
